And welcome to my blog , October is a month dedicated for breast cancer awareness . We all know at least one woman who has been effected by this disease . in 2012 there was 1 671149 new cases of breast cancer were identified .
It's so important to you to know the anatomical modification that can happen to the breast while the developing of a cancer and you should teach your daughter about it too .

1- do a palpation by yourself once a week or once in 2 weeks , just to check if there is any lumps .
2- if there is an increasing of one breast size and the other no .
3- if there are lumps in the armpit area ( those lumps are the lymph node )
4 - check if there is any modifications of the skin . the skin will have the same texture as an Orange we called it " peau d'orange = orange skin "
5- the skin color turns red .
6- bloody discharge from the nipple .
7- or if there is retraction of the nipple or invert .
how to do breast-self exam ?
do it in 2 position while lying on your back and while standing . use your fingertips and do a circle mouvment around your breast . check also the nipple and gently squizze it to see if there is any discharge . don't forget to check if there is lumps in the armpite area.

What causes breast cancer ?
- Genetic factor : presence of the mutation of gene BRCA1 or BRCA2 Increase the risk of breast cancer but That doesn't mean that all the women who has this mutation will be affected .
- Hereditary : if a mother or if there is multiple women in a family has a breast cancer . The chances being affected by this disease increase . That's why when doctors receive a patient they advise her daughter to do a yearly screening . Hereditary means genetically transmitted .
- Radiation : only if you already did a radiotherapy session for other pathology .
- Estrogen : which is a female sex hormone . The increasing of estrogen augment the risk of breast cancer. This hormone has a direct effect on the breast cell and stimulate their multiplication .
the oral contraceptive are based on estrogen and progesterone , so the contraceptive are responsible of increasing estrogen rate and that's why the risk increase too , especially for women who take them for more than 10 years .
- Pregnancy : being pregnant at young age decrease the risk . I already said that estrogen stimulate the multiplication of breast cell , during pregnancy and breastfeeding, there is a system that inhibit estrogen secretion .
- Smocking , alcohol , unhealthy food , exposing to chemicals, all of those factor increase the risk of breast cancer .
At the end if you have any of this symptoms , check out your doctor . You can do a yearly screening in October ( where I live they offer it free in October )
